On April 9, 2016, the International Glass Conference was held at the Lujiazui International Convention Center in Pudong, Shanghai. This conference brings together experts, scholars, and practitioners from 33 countries around the world, covering various aspects of glass research and development, technology, utilization, education, etc. It is the most authoritative event in the international glass industry and is known as the "Olympics" of the glass industry.

At the meeting, Peng Shou, Chairman of the 24th Advisory Committee of the International Glass Association, was awarded the "Lifetime Achievement Award of the President of the International Glass Association", along with three senior experts from glass powerhouses such as the United States and Japan. This achievement is also the highest achievement that China has achieved in the glass industry, which means that China's influence in the world glass industry is increasing.

Peng Shou stated that in 21 years, with the rapid development of the global economy, China's ability to host such an international event is a full recognition of China's achievements in the research, industrial development, and application of glass technology by the world. In the past, China's glass industry has always been in a relatively backward position. However, moving from a catch-up model to becoming a leading country in the world is undoubtedly a turning point for overtaking. How to ensure the international status of China's glass industry is the direction that all practitioners in China should strive for.

Glass, as a material, is indispensable in the development of the entire modern economy and society. Glass has the characteristics of environmental protection, toughness, flexibility, and durability, so it is closely related to the country's aerospace, information industry, electronics industry, and the daily lives and transportation of ordinary people. The design and research of Bengbu Glass Industry has successfully achieved zero industrial production. 2mm ultra-thin glass and TFT glass have promoted the development of China's electronic information industry and attracted worldwide attention. Peng Shou stated that everything needs to constantly integrate new connotations in order to ensure long-lasting prosperity. Therefore, this conference will undoubtedly promote the development of China's glass technology towards thinning, functionalization, and basic materials. China is at the beginning of the 13th Five Year Plan, and the opportunity is rare. The materials industry, which is restricting the development of the glass industry, should seize this opportunity to exchange ideas with advanced peers, experts, and scholars, learn from them, and integrate them.

Peng Shou proposed that China's glass industry needs to grow from large to strong, from new to new, and form a batch of technology products with independent intellectual property rights. In order to let colleagues around the world recognize China's achievements in the glass industry and enable the export of China's advanced technology, Peng Shou proposed cross-border, cross field, and cross industry cooperation, hoping to promote the development of the glass industry through such cooperation and further determine and expand China's leading international status.
